GenoCAD Quick Tip: Adding Rules to Grammars

Rules are meant to be broken. For example, calling in a carryout order at a busy restaurant while you’re sitting at a table in the back drinking a Coke and then taking your food back to the table and eating at the restaurant is maybe breaking a few societal norms, but hey, no big deal.

In genetics, though, breaking rules is a terrible idea. It will result either in the creation of a deadly hybrid dinosaur or, more likely, a lot of frustration when your DNA construct doesn’t express properly. To avoid that latter scenario (we can’t help with the other one), follow the steps below for adding rules to genetic grammars in GenoCAD:

  1. Navigate to GenoCAD.com and log in
  2. Click on “Parts and Grammars”
  3. Select the “Grammars” tab
  4. Select the genetic grammar you want to work with and click on “Manage Grammar”
  5. Select a category of DNA part to add a new rule to
  6. Click on the “Add Rule” button
  7. Drag and drop categories to make the desired rule, then save it
  8. Go watch Jurassic Park IV for the 8th time.
