GenoCAD Quick Tip: Importing Grammars

See what you think about this Aristotelian syllogism: Reinventing the wheel is a terrible idea. Wheels are circular. DNA plasmids are circular, like wheels. Genetic grammars can be used to create DNA constructs and plasmids. Therefore, reinventing genetic grammars is a terrible idea.

If you agree, or if you followed that logical disaster at all, we have good news for you. First, we won’t be teaching any philosophy or logic seminars in the near future. Secondly, and more relevant to your DNA design needs, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to making grammars. Instead, we have an easy way to import existing grammars, outlined below.

  1. Head over to (well, actually, since you’re reading this you’re already there. But whatever.)
  2. Select a free or paid grammar
  3. Click on the “Buy Now” button
  4. Navigate to the GenoCAD app at
  5. Select “Parts and Grammars”
  6. Click on the “Grammars” tab
  7. Click on “Add/Import Grammar”
  8. Choose a .genocad file and select “Import Grammar”
  9. Done. Happy designing!
