Cyberbiosecurity Services

GenoFAB’s cyberbiosecurity services help life science organizations develop more secure and resilient operations. They are based on the lessons learned over 10 years while collaborating with multiple government agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Defense, and members of the Intelligence Community.

What is cyberbiosecurity?

The frontier between cyberspace and the biological world becomes increasingly more blurry. Chemical processes make it possible to recreate biological organisms using DNA sequences available from bioinformatics data or generate in software. Rapid progress in DNA sequencing technologies makes it easier to generate comprehensive datasets describing the content of biological samples. Recently, scientists at the University of Washington even demonstrated the possibility of encoding a computer virus in a DNA molecule.

The interface between the biological world and cyberspace creates a number of new risks for biotechnology companies and life science organizations. Traditional biosafety and biosecurity policies are no longer sufficient to understand their exposure.

List of cyberbiosecurity services

Understanding an organization exposure to cyberbiosecurity risks is a process that develops over time. GenoFAB provides different levels of services corresponding to the different phases of this process.

1-Cyberbiosecurity Awareness

It all starts with awareness. We can help your organization increase its awareness of the evolving security landscape in the life sciences. It is generally recommended to start this conversation at the top level of the organization through a briefing to the board of directors or to the company top management. Contact us to initiate the conversation.

After the leadership has recognized the importance of this issue, we can develop an online training program for your personnel. This program will quizzes, exams, and various gamification features to keep them engaged. Generally, this is an eye-opening experience that will naturally lead to the next phase of the process.

2-Cyberbiosecurity Risk Assessment

In this phase of the engagement, we help our clients better understand their unique exposure. This requires a critical review of their operations, organization, and infrastructure. It also involves a competitive analysis of the market in which they operate. This stage concludes with the development of various scenarios that will help all the stakeholders understanding the risks they are exposed to.

3-Cyberbiosecurity Risk Management

In the last phase of the engagement, we help the client prioritize the risks that require the most immediate attention. Revising some of the company standard operating practices is the first step. In some cases, we may recommend the deployment of specialized software tools as part of the risk management strategy.
